Inaugural Macao Gaming Show a resounding success
November 20, 2013
Macao – The first ever Macao Gaming Show (MGS) concluded at the weekend with over 100 exhibitors attracting a huge attendance over three days at the Venetian’s CotaiExpo.
The first gaming trade show to focus specifically on Asia, MGS attracted 8,634 visitors to see the 102 exhibitors with the show covering a whopping 7,887 square meters of floor space.
The exhibitors included a number of Macao’s top junket operators, who account for around 50 percent of Macao’s VIP gaming revenue, as well as gaming manufacturers, casino operators and pari-mutuels as well as a number of non-gaming businesses such as Food and Beverage.
“We’re proud to say that the inaugural Macao Gaming Show proved to be a great success,” said Mr Jay Chun, chairman of the Macau Gaming Equipment Manufacturers Association (MGEMA), organizers of MGS. “The presence of so many companies who play such a big role in the gaming landscape of Macao and Asia as a whole, along with some great feedback from all who attended, confirms how important it was for the region to finally have a show to call its own. The good news is we’re only going to get bigger and better from here and we’re already looking forward to next year’s show.”
Among the highlights of the show was the Slot Experience Center where visitors were given the opportunity to test drive the latest machines and provide valuable feedback to the slot machine manufacturers. The Slot Experience Center was an innovative idea created by MGS to help Electronic Gaming Machine (EGM) manufacturers attract useful feedback from slot players. EGM manufacturers installed their latest machines in the Slot Experience Center with players evaluating them on theme, graphics, sound and overall playing experience. Awards were given to EGM manufacturers who received the highest number of votes from players. MGS also invited slot professionals to offer their expert feedbacks on these machines. Bally Titanic swept the major awards, voted number one for Best Music and Audio; Best Game Theme; Best Users Experience and Best Game Graphics.
Another fantastically received feature of the show was MGSTV, a television channel dedicated to MGS, which featured interviews with gaming industry leaders, representatives from major exhibitors and speakers at the MGS conference, the Macao Gaming Summit. MGSTV also featured vox pops from the floor of the show as well as coverage of the MGS Grand Prix Party and the MGS Cup evening at the Macau Jockey Club.
A number of visitors were fortunate enough to win terrific prizes as part of a lucky draw including tickets to the House of Dancing Water and TABOO at City of Dreams as well as passes to the prestigious Grand Prix party at Golden Bar where they enjoyed one of the best spots from which to watch the Macao Grand Prix.
MGS also thanked show co-organizers – the General Association of Administrators and Promoters for Macao Gaming Industry, Associação de Mediadores de Jogos e Entretenimento de Macau (AMJEM), the Macau Jockey Club, MACAUSLOT and Macao Yat Yuen Canidrome – as well as conference co-organizers the International Masters of Gaming Law (IMGL), Asia Pacific Association for Gambling Studies (APAGS) and Macau Research Society of the Law for Copyright (MRSLC).
Last but not least, MGS has received great support from major casino operators of Macao. MGS would therefore like to thank the sponsors for their generous support, including diamond sponsors Sands China Limited and Melco Crown Entertainment, ruby sponsor Wynn Macao, and silver sponsors Galaxy Entertainment Group, Sociedade de Jogos de Macau S.A. (SJM), MGM Macao, Casino Lan Kwai Fong, and Casino Kam Pek Paradise.
